The government has increased the old age pension by 20 percent. The Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) announced to raise pensions for elderly people.With this 20 percent increase the old age pension now stands at 6,500 rupees per month. The pensioners were getting 5,250 rupees as old age pension.
The workers of private sector registered with social security can get this state pension after reaching the age of 60 years. But workers need to fulfill certain conditions and requirements before they can get old age benefit. Millions of private sector workers are without old age benefit because they are not registered with social security. The government needs to update the labour laws and social security laws to cover all the private sector workers under these laws.
Moreover, overseas Pakistanis will not need to have their National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) to avail pensions now.
