Atlanta rapper 21 Savage has been detained by US immigration administrators who say that he is from the UK and not United States.
The rapper named Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph arrived to the US in July 2005 at the age of 12 and did not leave when his visa expired a year later as per the officers.
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) narratormentionedthe rapper was in the country unlawfully and a convicted criminal.
In previous interviews with media, the rapper, Abraham-Joseph has always talked about a childhood in Atlanta. The 26-year-old is also cited saying he was disqualified from school in Atlanta for taking a gun to class when he was 12 or 13.
21 Savage is at the peak of his career as his just released album had become hugely popular being praised for its introspection, storytelling, and maturity.
Atlanta is debatably the focus of hip-hop in the US right now and to an extend in the world too. He is one of the city’s greatest.
The rapper is known in his community as a person who regularly gives funds for charitable causes. He introduced his own campaign encouraging financial literacy in children on the Ellen show.
His songs have mainly highlighted pictures of a furious childhood in Atlanta bounded by drugs and guns, something which up until now nobody had interrogated. But his arrest by officials and the stories about links to the UK have certainly left people in the city puzzled.
A fan in Atlanta stated, “I find that very hard to believe that he moved from England on his own to Atlanta.”
“He’s an icon for here,” stated another fan in the state of Georgia’s capital. “He’s making great music. We’re losing someone big.”
