The 705th three-day annual urs of great saint Shah Rukne Alam has been started in Multan from today (Jan 12).
The inaugural ceremony will be presided by federal minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, by performing ritual washing of the cenotaph. Provincial Minister Auqaf, Sahibzada Syed Saeed ul Hassan Shah, Custodian Khawaja Farid Kot Mitthan, Khawaja Ghulam Farid Koreja and Chairman Muslim Academy, Islamabad, Sahibzada Sultan Ahmad Ali would be chief guests on the occasion. Arrangements have been finalized by different departments including MEPCO, Pakistan Railways, Rescue 1122, Nishtar Hospital and Auqaf department would extend best possible facilities to the devotees.
Sheikh Rukn-ud-Din Abul Fateh commonly known by the title Shah Rukn-e-Alam was an eminent Sufi saint from Multan in modern-day Pakistan who belonged to Suhrawardiyya Sufi order. Shah Rukne Alam was the son of Pir Sadar-Al-Din Arif. He was born in Multan on Friday, the 9th of Ramadan 649 Hijri (26 November 1251). He was the grandson and successor of Sheikh Baha-ud-din Zakariya. Shah Rukn-e-Alam died on Friday, the 7th of Jumada al-awwal 735 Hijri.
The urs would conclude on January 14.
