After rejection of petition challenging Aasia Bibi’s acquittal in Blasphemy case, now Pakistan’s foreign office on Wednesday (Jan 30) said that Asia Bibi is now free for travel abroad as she has been cleared in all blasphemy cases.
Earlier a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and comprising Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel rejected the plea against Supreme Court;s decision to acquit Asia Bibi. “Based on merit, this review petition is dismissed,” Chief Justice Khosa told a hearing at the apex court. “You could not point out [even] a single mistake in the Supreme Court’s verdict”.
The Supreme Court on October 30, 2018 acquitted Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death over blasphemy allegations. Announcing the judgment, the three-judge special bench ordered, “If Asia Bibi is not involved in any other case then she be released immediately.”
