Newly-appointed adviser on finance Revenue and Economic Affairs Division Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, on Saturday (April 20) took charge after resignation of PTI leader Asad Umar.
Sheikh, a Pakistani political economist of international repute with over 30 years of experience, has served as the finance minister from 2010 to 2013. In 2012, he became an active member of Pakistan Peoples Party and successfully contested in the 2012 senate elections.
Finance Minister Asad Umar on Thursday (April 18) announced that he has obtained the prime minister’s consent “to not take any cabinet position” amid reports of a reshuffle. “As part of a cabinet reshuffle PM desired that I take the energy minister portfolio instead of finance. However, I have obtained his consent to not take any cabinet position. I strongly believe Imran Khan is the best hope for Pakistan and inshallah will make a naya pakistan”.
