Up to 610 of the 6,000 prisoners in Adiyala Central Prison were screened for infectious diseases at a special medical camp. Speaking to the media, Dr. Rashid Khan, chief executive of the District Health Authority, said that of the 610 detainees examined, 32 have tested positive for Hepatitis-C and five had been diagnosed with Hepatitis-B.
Dr Rashid said that the tests are being administered at no cost to the prisoners to check for Hepatitis B/C and HIV and AIDS prevalence. He added that inmates are also being provided with medical consultation, examination, vaccination and treatment.
He said, 11 officials of the District Health Authority including medical officers, dispensers and computer operators are performing duties at the camp. He added that the medical camps will continue till July 20.
