At least 26 people were dead when a suicide bomber blew himself up during Friday prayers in a mosque located in Ismail Khel district of Khost province, eastern Afghanistan, officials said.
At least 22 were wounded in the blast in the eastern province of Khost, which follows a wave of deadly attacks across Afghanistan in recent weeks as militants step up assaults amid a flurry of diplomatic efforts to end the 17-year conflict. Friday’s attack came three days after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at a gathering of religious scholars in Kabul, the capital.
