Convicted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has filed an appeal in Islamabad High Court (IHC) in which he requested to declare his seven years imprisonment in Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference null and void, and release him on bail.
In the appeal he argued that the court’s verdict is grounded in an incorrect interpretation of the law. A court in Islamabad on Monday (Dec 23) sentenced the former prime minister to seven years in prison and a fine if Rs1.5 billion and US$25 million following Al-Azizia steel mills reference while he has been acquitted in the Flagship Investment reference. Nawaz shaif was shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail on December 25.
A two-member divisional bench of the Islamabad High Court will hear the appeal against Nawaz’s conviction and sentence.
