Islamabad High Court (IHC) bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani on Monday (Feb 25) dismissed a bail petition filed by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on medical grounds in Al-Azizia reference case.
A court in Islamabad on Dec 23 sentenced the former prime minister to seven years in prison following Al-Azizia steel mills reference while he has been acquitted in the Flagship Investment reference.
Nawaz Sharif, in July 2017,was disqualified by the Supreme Court as it investigated revelations that came out of the so-called Panama Papers, leaked documents from a Panamanian law firm. The documents indicated that Mr. Sharif’s family owned expensive properties in London, but he was unable to explain how he was able to afford them. On July 06, an accountability court sentenced the former PM, daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar in Avenfield reference.
