Filmmakers of Bollywood upcoming political drama The Accidental Prime Minister has unveiled the trailer of the movie on Thursday. Anupam Kher, who plays the role of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Vijay Ratnakar Gutte-directed film, shared the trailer of the film and wrote: “Ladies and Gentlemen! Presenting the trailer of our highly anticipated film The Accidental Prime Minister.”
The movie features him as India’s former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Akshaye Khanna plays his media adviser Sanjay Baru, who also wrote the book from which the film gets its name. Based on the 2014 memoir of the same name, written by Singh’s media adviser Sanjay Baru, The Accidental Prime Minister revolves around Singh’s life, the economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
While talking about the upcoming venture Kher said, “One and a half years back when my friend Ashoke Pandit told me that there is a film being made on The Accidental Prime Minister, my first reaction was that I should not be a part of this film. This was because of so many reasons. Everybody has heard about the book and there were controversies. I was thinking that this will be a political film. But this is a film which shows, if you have to survive, you have to act and you have to deliver”.
“This film has to be perceived as a film, it should not get into controversies just because of whosoever is in the background. There is also a lot of humour in this film. There is a lot of conversation too, so people can’t say that it is a silent film. Anyway, there are many people who are waiting to see if I have goofed up in any way while playing this character. They are waiting to attack me. But, as an actor, I will never let that happen.”
The Accidental Prime Minister is all set to hit the screens on January 11 next year. Hansal Mehta is the creative producer of the film
