The Supreme Court of Pakistann on Monday (Jan 14), after briefing on the progress made by a judicial commission probing the matter, has raped up the case the suo motu case pertaining to the 2014 Army Public School incident.
At least 140 people, most of them children, were martyred when militants stormed the school on December 16, 2014 – making it one of the most traumatising attacks in the history of the country. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken a suo motu notice of the APS case in April whenthe parents claimed mismanagement by authorities that authorities had been alerted to the possibility of an attack on an army-run institution a few weeks before attack on APS Peshawar.
Advocate general Khyber Pakhtunkhwa told Justice Nisar that 147 testimonies have been recorded but another 109 are still pending. “Until these testimonies are not complete, we cannot furnish the report,” said the provincial advocate general. “All right then, we will dispose off this case,” remarked the chief justice. “Submit the report in court when it’s complete.”
