Ousted Finance Minister Asad Umar has been elected chairman of National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs on Monday (May 13).
His appointment came after Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s separate meetings with Umar to convince him to rejoin the federal cabinet.
The Chairman expressed his gratitude to the members for posing confidence in him and assured them to run the business of the Committee with consensus. The members, while appreciating views of the Chairman, assured him their fullest support in the process of legislation.
Umar resigned from the federal cabinet in April after PM Imran removed him from the finance ministry and offered him the energy ministry.
