Maulana Fazlur Rehman, president of the Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), while addressing the “million march,” alleged that decision of Asia Bibi’s acquittal was taken under a deal, which is now praised in west. he further said that “EU delegation that visited Pakistan in run-up to the decision, offered the country membership of international financial clubs and linked the offer to the Aasia Bibi’s release”.
“If Aasia Bibi’s release is only a legal decision, why is there flood of personal praises directed at the CJP and Imran Khan? It only proves that the decision was taken under a deal, which is now being praised in the West. What kind of legal decision is this which is being celebrated by the West and has caused anxiety in the Ummah?,”the Maulana said.
“Misquoting the Islamic history of Misaq-i-Madina, the PTI parliamentarians are trying to justify the diplomatic recognition of Isreal as well.” “I have been arguing since long that Imran Khan is a Jew representative and has been anointed by the West to play its proxy. Now he has been brought to power only to play games of his masters and hurt the Ummah. The government is guilty of conspiring to alter the blasphemy law, setting blasphemers free and playing to Western tunes,” he said. He announced that the next protest on the issue would be held on Nov 25 at Sukkur.
The Supreme Court acquitted Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death over blasphemy allegations. Announcing the judgment, the three-judge special bench ordered, “If Asia Bibi is not involved in any other case then she be released immediately.” Asia Bibi, allegedly made “defamatory and sarcastic” statements about the Holy Prophet on June 14, 2009 during an argument with three Muslim women.
Earlier on October 8, court has reserved the verdict on Bibi’s appeal challenges the Lahore High Court’s October 2014 verdict of upholding a trial court’s November 2010 decision of sentencing Bibi to death for committing blasphemy. Asia Bibi, a Christian accused of blasphemy under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code for allegedly defaming Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), eight years ago, was awarded death penalty.
Accused made three “defamatory and sarcastic” statements about the Holy Prophet on June 14, 2009 during an argument with three Muslim women (She was asked to fetch water, but the Muslim women objected, saying that as a non-Muslim she was unfit to touch the water bowl)., while the four of them were picking fruit in a field in Sheikhupura. The women later went to a local cleric and accused Bibi of blasphemy against the Holy Prophet. Bibi was convicted and sentenced to death in 2010 and has been in jail ever since.
After the supreme court’s verdict of Asia Bibi’s acquittal, countrywide protests were erupted during last week, resulting in damage of public properties, vandalism and roads blockage. Educational institutes were also closed following protest. An agreement was signed between Pakistan government and protesters, to end sit-in.
