The interior ministry has initiated crackdown against rioters involved in destroying property during the three-day countrywide protests against Supreme Court’s verdict of Asia Bibi’s acquittal. Policy has started to registered cases against rioters.
Punjab police arrested 1,100 suspects till Sunday evening and registered 130 cases against culprits who involved in destruction of public and private properties during the protests against Asia Bibi’s acquittal.
Government on Sunday launches an official complaint cell number that can be utilized by citizens all over the country in sending identification in form of pictures and videos of the protesters involved in violence and destruction. The evidence can be shared with authorities on 0331-5480011. It was further mentioned by the ministry that the identification of those sending in the evidence will remain confidential.
“We will release more pictures of those involved in rioting and destroying public property in the coming days,” a statement from the interior ministry read. “The interior ministry received pictures from the special branch and other sources. We have asked the police and the FIA for their cooperation in identifying the perpetrators,” the statement said.
Earlier this week, country-wide protests had erupted against the Supreme Court’s verdict to immediate release of Asia Bibi, Christian women was allegedly involved in blasphemy charges.
