Pakistani cueist Asjad Iqbal won the inaugural South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) snooker championship by defeating countryman Muhammad Iqbal at Dhaka on Thursday.
In All-Pakistani final, both players have exhibit high-class snooker but Asjad Iqbal held the nerves and in best of thirteen frames he secured seven frames and clinched the crown by 7-5.
In the semi-finals Asjad carved out 6-4 frames victory over Laxman Rawat (38-78, 73-27, 116-14, 68-18, 53-9, 43-101, 21-67, 32-63, 76-37, 74-40). The victory includes a splendid break of 87 in the third frame. Asjad’s contemporary Bilal blanked Sundeep Gulati straight 6-0 (53-51, 100-17, 77-71, 78-38, 74-27, 62-11) that envisaged two breaks of 62 and 51 in the second and fifth frames.
