As many as 39 candidates of different political parties and independents are contesting elections for three seats of the KP assembly from Bajaur district being held for the first time on July 20. The supporters of the candidates have accelerated election campaign in the district by arranging elections rallies and corner meeting canvassing for their candidates.
In all 12 candidates are in the run for KP-100 constituency, 15 for PK-101 and 12 in PK-102. Elections are being held for the first time in the history of erstwhile Fata wherein candidates of political and religious parties are equally participating. The mainstream parties including PTI, PMLN, PPPP, ANP, JUIF, JI and QWP have fielded their candidates in the constituencies.
The official told that no female candidate was in the final lists of contesting candidates for all the three seats, adding that only one female had obtained nomination papers, but she did not submitted.

PTI vs. PTI
Most of the independent candidates of all the three constituencies were the senior activists of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf which included PTI local chapter president Dr Khalilur Rahman and General secretary Sayed Ahmed Jan.
Ajmal Khan who was awarded ticket for PK101 is the son of PTI MNA Gul Dad Khan while Hameed-ur Rehman who awarded ticket for PK-102 was the brother in law of another PTI MNA Gul Zafar Khan of NA 41 Bajaur.
The ruling PTI was in the position to clean sweep the first ever polls for the provincial assembly seats in the district. However, presence of more than one candidate at two constituencies out of three has made the party chances of winning doubtful. Ji might pull one victory out of three constituencies.
In PK-100, the PTI fielded Anwar Zeb Khan, who is the old face and fully supported and backed by the constituency leadership and party ticket seekers. He is facing the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate who has also great influence in the area. However, Anwar Zeb has chances of winning the July 20 elections as he has great support on ground.
On PK 101, PTI fielded it’s sitting MNA’s Gul Dad Khan’s brother Engineer Ajmal Khan. Another influential party leader Haji Sayed Ahmad Khan, who is the former deputy commissioner, is contesting as independent candidate under umbrella of Nazria Bachao Tehrik. He is very influential especially in Mamond tehsil of the district and observers believe his votes will give tough time to the PTI candidate.
It would be interesting face-off between Ajmal Khan and Haji Sayed Ahmad Khan, who are too old party leaders and among the influential figures of the constituency.
In PK-102 too, there are two PTI candidates contesting against each other. The party awarded ticket to Dr. Hanif-ur-Rehman whereas Haji Rahim Dad is contesting as independent.
Siraj-u-Din Khan of Jammat-e-Islami is considered as strong candidate in PK-102. A close contest is expected between the PTI and JI candidates in PK-102. However, the presence of the Rahim Dad making space for the JI candidate by cutting party votes.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan and Governor Shah Farman met both the rebel candidates, Haji Sayed Ahamd Khan from PK-101 and Haji Rahim Dad from PK-102, to withdraw in favor of the party candidates; however, they refused and adamant to contest elections.
The real contest on all three seats is between PTI, JI and independent candidates.
