In a major below for Bangladesh’s cricket team, wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has declined to visit Pakistan for the forthcoming series, a team official said on Thursday.
“Mushfiq rang me today to inform that he will not go to Pakistan. We are now waiting for his formal letter. Once he does that, we will leave him out of the series,” Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin told AFP.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play three Twenty20 internationals, two Tests and one one-day international (ODI) in Pakistan between January and April. Minhajul said they are likely to announce the squad for the series in a day or two.
Earlier, after the discussion regarding Bangladesh’s cricket team’s tour, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) concluded discussions regarding tour of Pakistan and have decided that Bangladesh will play three T20Is in Lahore from January 24-27.
According to the revised arrangement, Bangladesh will return to Pakistan for the first World Test Championship (WTC) fixture, which is to be held from February 7-11 in Rawalpindi.
