PTI government is failing on fronts. One- its corruption narrative stands exposed. PTI leaders wasted precious 17 months for blaming the previous governments for everything that goes wrong. This strategy was bringing the desired results at the beginning but as the time pass through-this strategy becomes counter-productive.
People were ready to give time to PTI government clear the mess of previous governments. But People started to ask questions on the performance of PTI government after passage of initial phase of this government. PTI government and its leaders failed to realise that blaming the opposition strategy lost steam and argument lost the value.
Second-Its performance stands exposed. PTI government has exposed itself so quickly that it will be difficult to find an example of such utter failure. Big promises and tall claims were made. But PTI government failed to deliver the promises it made. It failed to bring reforms to improve the governance. It failed to improve the economy and lift the millions of poor people from the pool of abject poverty.
PTI government led by Prime minister Imran Khan has failed to end or reduce corruption in government institutions and departments. People are forced to pay bribe to register a case in the police station. They are forced to pay for electricity –gas and water connections in Naya Pakistan as they were used to pay in Purana Pakistan. Nothing really has changed for ordinary people.
The high inflation and price hike has made the lives of poor Pakistanis miserable. They are finding it difficult to feed themselves. The cost of living is on the rise. The incomes are not rising.
Instead of improving the performance of its government- PTI leaders including PM Imran Khan has adopted the strategy to put the blame on the others. If prices of food-electricity- gas- petrol and vegetables are rising simply blame the opposition and media.
When the Prime Minister himself blames the media for projecting the negative image of his government- it reflects the thinking of the ruling party. PM Imran Khan is not seems happy with media. PM Imran Khan thinks that he knows everything that is happening in Pakistan. He knows exactly the situation of poor people.
But the matter of fact is that he knows very little what is happening. How his government’s policies are affecting and impacting the lives of ordinary Pakistanis. He looked completely detached and disconnected from the ground realities. He is even disconnected from his own party activists and local level leaders.
He has been surrounded by billionaire friends and leaders. He lives in different Pakistan- the Pakistan of rich-elite and business tycoons. There is nothing common between the elite class which surrounded him and rest of population.
What these elitist politicians and technocrats disconnected from masses told him- he accepts it as reality. When he was told about the real conditions of masses and economic hardships they are facing-he reject the ground reality as mere propaganda and negative campaign.
The problem with the blaming the others strategy is that one failed to review its policies and strategy. One fails to recognise the failures and shortcomings and need to overcome these shortcomings and weaknesses to improve the governance.
Imran Khan and other leaders of PTI need to change the current strategy of blaming others for its own failures. Without having a realistic analysis of current situation and its own policies it will be difficult for them to improve the situation. In order to improve the performance and image of its government-it is necessary to accept the reality as it is.
If the PPP and PML-N governments were tagged with corruption then the PTI government is being tagged as incompetent and inefficient. The tag of inability and incompetence is much more dangerous than the tag of corruption. There is another thing that needs to be addressed and understand that Poor performance cannot be covered or hide with better media management.
The media management is important to convey the message but performance is more important. Poor performance can be hiding and covered through better media management for a short period of time but not for long.
So instead twisting the arms of already struggling media- It is better to focus on the performance and delivery. Actions speak louder than words. After a while empty words lose its importance and meaning. So it is right time for the PTI government to take actions and improve the governance. Bring the real change in the lives of millions of poverty-stricken people.
Stop blaming the media and Transparency International for negative perception about this government. Don’t challenge the credibility of Transparency International and instead take practical measures and steps to root out the bribery and corrupt practices.
Just rejecting the report of transparency International on corruption perception will not help to address this burning issue. Imran khan himself spends 22 years campaigning against the corruption. The reality of everyday life is that corruption is rampant at every level. If Prime Minister himself is not involved in corruption it does not means that everybody has stopped taking bribes- commissions and kickbacks.
The same system is at work. No real change has been made in 17 months. It will not come just for blasting the opposition parties- previous governments and imagined mafias.
The matter of fact is that all the mafias PM Imran Khan loves to attack every day are represented at every level of PTI government. The sugar mafia- flour mafia-real estate mafia -health mafia and other mafia exists today as they were 17 months ago. The most powerful and rich elite is enjoying the same perks and privileges and access to state resources as they were enjoying 17 months ago.
Listening to the critics and opponents will help to understand the issues and concerns of people. The serious critics will provide you in-depth analysis of the situation. But it only happens when one is ready to listen. When one ready to accept the fact that it is not the previous government but the policies of PTI government that has caused problems for the masses.
PTI needs to come out of this flawed thinking that they cannot make mistakes and done anything wrong because they are honest and patriotic. PTI needs to come out of this thinking and state of mind that they are ones who knows everything and rest are corrupt and agents of mafias. This will not help as the 17 month’s experience shows so far.
