Brad Pitt’s lawyer responded against Angelina Jolie at a remote appellate court hearing on Friday as their custody battle heated up.
During the hearing, attorneys for both parties presented their cases, with Robert Olson, Jolie’s lawyer, requesting that Judge John W. Ouderkirk be removed from the custody case. Pitt was given shared custody of their six children in May after her last attempt to have him removed was denied in November.
On Friday, Olson claimed that Judge Ouderkirk was biassed in his handling of the case, claiming that he was collaborating with Pitt’s lawyer on legal subjects.
“Until Ms. Jolie asked, the judge, the ARC, and opposing counsel were the only ones who knew what was going on… she was startled that this was going on,” Olson stated. “Ms. Jolie was completely unaware of what occurred between Pitt’s counsel and the judge.”
Pitt’s lawyer retaliated, claiming Jolie was aware of the possible issue all along. “The children are becoming older in this long-running child custody case,” he stated, “and to accept a stalling technique like this would be highly unjust.”
He went on to say, “There were no surprises.” “The relationship and the reasons were known to Ms. Jolie and her counsel.”
Kelly Chang Rickert, a family law attorney, told Entertainment Tonight that she believes Jolie is “fighting a lost battle.”
“She would never be bringing this appeal; she would not challenge Ouderkirk’s judgement as prejudiced if he had sided with Angelina and granted her exclusive custody,” she claimed. “It’s only because she lost that she’s criticising it. She’s struggling, and she’s getting close.”
