At least ten soccer players, aged between 14 and 16 were killed and three others sustained burn injuries due to fire at a training center of Rio de Janeiro soccer club on Friday (Feb 8). The three injured players were taken to hospital, one of them in serious condition with burns across 30 per cent of his body, Flamengo said in a short statement.
“Those who died were athletes,” said Beatriz Busch, the public health secretary for the state of Rio de Janeiro, adding that their identities had not been released and the cause of the fire was unknown. “We can’t tell you the cause of the fire; that needs to be investigated,” he added.
