The current British interior minister Sajid Javid a British-Pakistani is among the top contenders for the slot of British PM. He is the son of a Pakistani bus driver who migrated to Britain. The 49 years old Sajid Javid is a former investment banker who w ants to contest the election of Tory party leadership in the case of successful vote of no confidence against current prime minister Theresa May. Some ministers and MPs have moved no confidence motion against Theresa May.
Prime Minister May is facing increased opposition within the party on the issue of Brexit. She delayed a possible vote on Brexit deal due to differences in the party. If she falls, any Conservative MP elected by the party as leader would automatically become prime minister. But it is less likely that she will lose the confidence vote. She might emerge winner in this internal party power struggle against her opponents.
Sajid Javid has risen in the ranks of Tory party in recent years and has become important leader of ruling party. He is economically liberal and voted to stay in EU in 2016 but since backed and supported the Brexit deal. If elected leader of the Tory party and then Prime Minister, he will become the first ever Asian, Muslim and British –Pakistani prime minister.
