General Jonathan Vance, Chief of Defense Staff, Canadian Armed Forces met with High Commissioner, Raza Bashir Tarar in Ottawa to discuss defense and security relations between Pakistan and Canada.
General Jonathan Vance, Chief of Defense Staff, Canadian Armed Forces met with High Commissioner, Raza Bashir Tarar in Ottawa.
High Commissioner Tarar briefed the Chief of Defense Staff on the situation in Pakistan, including Pakistan’s cooperation in US led peace efforts in Afghanistan. He also stated that a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan is in the interest of neighboring countries, including Pakistan.
The Commissioner put forth the proposition of Pakistan and Canada having an augmented cooperation, with Canadian Armed Forces officers participating in Pakistan’s armed forces institution courses. The cooperation between the two forces can prove to be mutually beneficial.
General Vance pointed out important role being played by Pakistan towards regional peace and stability. He also noted Pakistan’s vital role in bringing peace in Afghanistan. The Chief of Defense Staff agreed with the High Commissioner to explore and advance the avenues for defense and security cooperation in the future.
