A controversy has been erupts after Yuzvendra Chahal replaced Ravindra Jadeja as a ‘concussion substitute’ in the first T20I between Australia and India.
The India all-rounder Jadeja was seen struggling due to a hamstring injury but off the 2nd delivery of the 20th over, in an attempt to pull Mitchell Starc, top-edged a delivery into his helmet.
At the end of the Indian innings, it later emerged that Jadeja had been replaced by a ‘like-for-like’ option with Chahal due to being hit on the head.
Despite being hit on the helmet, Jadeja kept batting, hitting back-to-back fours off the 4th and 5th ball.
Yuzvendra Chahal came in handy for the visitors as he ends up claiming a match-winning 3/25 and player of the match award.
The decision led to controversy, terming it as a biased advantage by the Indians as he was already limping with a hamstring injury throughout his batting and had been replaced by a specialist bowler.
Justin Langer, Australian head coach was seen having a heated argument with match referee David Boon by the side of the ground during the innings break.
