PAK Army Will Go to Any Extent to Support Kashmiris: COAS

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday (August 6) while presiding the Corps Commanders Conference held at General Headquarters (GHQ), affirmed Pakistan Army’s full support for the Kashmiris in their struggle for freedom.

He said that PAK army is prepared to go to “any extent to fulfill its obligations” in this regard, a statement from the military’s media wing said.  “The forum fully supported the government’s rejection of Indian actions regarding Kashmir. Pakistan never recognised the sham Indian efforts to legalise its occupation of Jammu & Kashmir through article 370 or 35-A decades ago; efforts which have now been revoked by India itself,” the ISPR statement read.

“Pakistan Army firmly stands by the Kashmiris in their just struggle to the very end. We are prepared and shall go to any extent to fulfill our obligations in this regard,” the ISPR quoted General Bajwa as saying.

The conference came a day after the Indian government abolished Article 370 of the constitution which granted special status to Indian-occupied Kashmir.

India has announced to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A from its constitution, which gives special status and rights to the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The presidential order on 370 states that everything in the Indian Constitution will apply to Jammu and Kashmir.

However, the biggest fallout for the state will stem from the abolition of its special status under Article 370. These are the likely major changes:

• Jammu and Kashmir will no longer have separate constitution, flag or anthem. The citizens of Jammu and Kashmir will not have dual citizenship-they will be citizens of India alone.
• As the new union territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be subject to the Indian Constitution, its citizens will now have the Fundamental Rights enshrined in that document-until now, this was not the case. Article 360, which can be used to declare a Financial Emergency, will now also be applicable.All laws passed by Parliament will be applicable in Jammu and Kashmir, including the Right to Information Act and the Right to Education Act.
