Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal won the Tour de France 2019, as the competition ended on Sunday (July 28). Team Ineos’ Bernal, 22, became the first Colombian national to win a Tour de France in history. “The first Colombian to win @LeTour is also the youngest-ever winner of the yellow jersey!” Team Ineos said in a Twitter post to honor Bernal.
Bernal celebrated his Tour de France victory with his family, hugging them to share the emotion. This year’s Tour de France ended in Paris with the 128-kilometer long (79.5 miles) final stage between Rambouillet and Champs-Elysees. Lotto Soudal team’s Australian cyclist Caleb Ewan won the final stage in Paris.
Ewan completed this stage in three hours, four minutes and eight seconds. “It’s unbelievable. Just to roll down the Champs-Elysees is such a surreal feeling!” Ewan said after winning the final stage. “It was quite a messy sprint today. I was quite far back. I waited and I just ran out of wheel. I went to the right hand side and I was lucky that I had enough speed at the end.
