The Indian authorities have imposed unannounced curfew in Indian occupied Kashmir to launch a massive military crackdown in the valley. The government has already suspended the internet and mobile services in the Himalayan region. The Indian occupied forces has martyred 10 Kashmiri youths in two days. The schools, colleges and universities have been ordered to close down. All exams have been postponed.
Kashmiri residents formed long lines outside petrol stations, food stores and bank cash machines on Friday night after the alert was announced. There is panic situation in Kashmir. The fear of massive state repression, brutal use of force and military crackdown is running high.
Many in occupied Kashmir fear for worst to come. They think Modi government is fully prepared to start genocide of Kashmiri youth. It will go to any extent to pacify the protest movement in the valley. It seems that Indian occupied forces are preparing for a blood bath.
The tourists have been asked to leave Kashmir immediately. The government has also stopped the Amaranth Yatra and asked the Hindu devotees to leave the valley. On the face of it, government is taking these measures on the threat of terrorist attacks. But main aim behind this massive buildup seems to be terrorised and repress the Kashmiri masses.
According to some media reports, the Indian government has send 1, 80,000 additional troops to Kashmir. Even though, the government gives the figures of 38,000 troop’s deployment through the media. But some journalists and couple of Indian news sites have confirmed the figure of 1, 80,000 troops. This is massive military buildup. There is no precedent of such massive military buildup in Indian occupied Kashmir in almost two decades.
All this started on 02 August after the joint press conference by top officials of the army, CRPF and occupied Jammu and Kashmir Police at military headquarters in Srinagar. The principal Secretary Home Shaleen Kabra issued a “security advisory” – one that has no precedence in the 30 years of insurgency in the state.
The security advisory said the following, “latest intelligence inputs of terror threats, with specific targeting of the Amarnath Yatra” and “prevailing security situation in the Kashmir Valley” coupled with their “interest of safety and security” called upon all the tourists and pilgrims to “curtail their stay in the valley immediately and take necessary measures to return as soon as possible”.
No specific details were provided to the media about the terror threats. The intelligence warning has been used to deploy nearly 0.18 million troops. Most of them have already been deployed in North Kashmir. North Kashmir has become the epic center of the freedom struggle of the Kashmiri population. The big deployment is also taking place along the Line of Control. India has also sent heavy artillery to the LOC including tanks.
It was reminiscent of the days when, at the outbreak of militancy in January to April in 1990, thousands of Kashmiri Pandit families had been “evacuated” to Udhampur and Jammu by the governor’s administration.
