Pakistan Customs Directorate General of Afghan has seized 4,472 metric tons of sugar contained in 258 containers of Indian origin that were erroneously declared as “white sugar” and destined for consumption in Afghanistan.
172 containers out of 258 containers have been tested by laboratories and have been classified as unfit for human consumption, the remaining 2236 metric tons (86 containers) being test.
The harmful contribution of this ” expired sugar” with an unpleasant odor that has turned brown would have seriously endangered the health of Afghan citizens had it made its way to the markets in Afghanistan.
By continuing to play its obligatory role in the “protection of society”, customs at the operational level further enhance their compliance efforts and information network, without compromising trade facilitation.
