The Dairy Association of Karachi unilaterally increased the price of milk by 16 Rs per liter on Wednesday; and now the product would be available at 110 rupees per liter in retail outlets. The situation triggered a wave of anger among consumers already burdened by rising inflation. The government set the price of milk at Rs. 94 per liter.
Sources close to the case told the media that the price of milk had been announced to the city administration at a price of Rs. 94, many milk sellers had refused to sell milk at this price. When asked why this increase had occurred, the association responded fiercely to the commissioner by asking, “Who is the commissioner [in controlling the milk price]? The product is ours, so we must decide its price. In the meantime, the city administration has remained silent on the issue.
