The federal minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda and Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Lt Gen (R) Muzammil Hussain on Wednesday (Dec 19) said that construction work on Mohmand dam project will begin from the first week of January 2019 as Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform the groundbreaking of the Mohmand dam in the first week of January.
The federal minister announced that the dam will produce 800 megawatts of electricity and 17,000 acres of land will be irrigated. In July, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered the immediate construction of Bhasha and Mohmand dams. The SC under Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar heard a case related to scarcity of water and construction of new dams. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar also took initiative of fundraising campaigns for dams’ construction.
