The electricity price is likely to be jump from anywhere between Rs. 1.5 to Rs. 2 PU, which will put an additional burden of more than Rupees 162 billion on the people.
As per details, the federal government is thinking about increasing the price of electricity which will put extra burden on the public already trapped in inflation and unemployment due to COVID-19 epidemic.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will decide on this important issue on June 3, next month after a hearing.
Power companies have filed applications for quarterly adjustments. Of these adjustments, more than Rupees. 73 billion has been requested for October-December 2019 and more than Rs. 89 billion for January-March 2020, more than Rs. 16 billion for ISCO, Rs. 28 billion for LESCO and Rs. 13 billion for GEPCO.
Rs. 23 billion of adjustments FESCO and MEPCO and more than Rs. 29 billion of PESCO have been sought.
