Europe’s top court said on Monday, Companies that embed Facebook’s “Like” button on their websites must seek users’ consent to transfer their personal data to the US social network, in line with the bloc’s data privacy laws.
Website add-ons such as the Facebook “Like” button are a common feature of online sales, as companies seek to promote their products on popular social networks, but critics are concerned that data transfer do not violate privacy laws.
The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), based in Luxembourg, intervened after a German consumer body sued the German fashion retailer Fashion ID for violating personal data protection rules through the use of the button on its site
