Facebook and Instagram social media sites suffered an outage around the globe on Thursday night.
The outage struck thousands in the U.S., Europe , Canada and other parts of the world. The outage appears to have begun Thursday afternoon and has a ‘complete blackout’ effect on news feeds, logins and some users.
Mail Online announced that Down Detector, a website that tracks outages on social media channels, websites and online utilities, started displaying problem reports on Instagram and Facebook on Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, on Down Detector’s outage map, the Instagram outage hits parts of California, New York City and southern Florida, all highlighted red.
Sections of Ireland, Portugal, the UK, the Netherlands and Sweden tend to suffer an outage across the Atlantic. The problems of Facebook do not seem as common, but are alongside California, reaching midwestern states, southern Florida, and parts of the US northeast.
