Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday (Feb 7) while addressing a press conference following a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, oce again demanded resignation of leader of opposition in national assembly Shehbaz Sharif from the post of chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The cabinet is under the impression that the PAC chairman is trying to “save” certain elected representatives who being investigated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for corrupt practices.
In a response to a question he said that cabinet did not discuss PTI leader Aleem Khan’s detention and rumours of a “deal” with the PML-N. he omce again made it clear that National Accountability Bureau is free in its decisions and investigation adding that NAB should work “effectively and transparently”. He also said that governmet has no influence on three main institutes of the country judiciary, the army and the government and are working independently.
Shahbaz Sharif was elected chairman of the Public Accounts Committee unopposed on December 21 as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government conceded the chairmanship of PAC to Shehbaz almost three months after a stalemate over the key position. His name was proposed by PMLN lawmaker Rohail Ashghar and endorsed by Mushahid Hussain Syed during the meeting of the parliamentary body.
