ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has warned taxpayers that they are receiving fake emails linked to the income tax defaulters list.
This appears to be a type of spamming in which hackers send viruses and malware to taxpayers and other users.
The tax collector has denied any involvement in the emails, which are being sent from a bogus email address, alert@fbr.news, according to a statement. The targeted taxpayers are instructed to search the attached Income Tax Defaulters List for their information.
Some emails purporting to include the password for the attached defaulter list are also being sent to taxpayers.
The FBR has issued an alert that the attachments to such bogus emails are riddled with dangerous viruses and malware.
The board has recommended that such fake emails should be ignored and submitted to the appropriate authorities as soon as possible.
The FBR has also given advice to taxpayers, which can be found at www.fbr.gov.pk, in order to assist them in dealing with fraudulent emails.
