ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) halted flights to Kabul on Monday due to security concerns, as a big crowd gathered at the runway to flee Afghanistan after the Taliban retook control of the capital.
“There is no security or staff at the Kabul airport, and a significant number of people have gathered at the runway,” a representative for the national flag carrier stated.
He insisted that the airline made the decision after consulting with Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry and Civil Aviation Authority. He went on to say that the choice was made to protect passengers, their belongings, and the crew.
According to the spokeswoman, flight operations to Kabul would be suspended for an undisclosed amount of time.
Today, the airline booked three flights between Islamabad and Kabul to return a significant number of Pakistanis and other citizens who had sought to flee Kabul.
