A full-court reference will held in the honor of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar at the Supreme Court premises today (Jan 17) on the occasion of his retirement.
Federal government, after the approval of President Arif Alvi, has announced that Justice Asif Saeed Khosa will be the next chief justice of Pakistan. The ministry of Law said that Justice Khosa will take charge as the chief justice on January 18. The oath taking ceremony of Chief Justice of Pakistan designate Justice, Asif Saeed Khosa will be held at Aiwan-e-Sadar on Friday.
Earlier Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar during hnis interaction with journalists in Lahore revealed his intentions to open a legal clinic to dispense free legal services to those who are unable to afford it. “You see, Pakistan wasn’t made only for the affluent, the poor have as much a right to basic facilities as anyone,” the top judge told reporters.
Mian Saqib Nisar served as the 25th and current Chief Justice of Pakistan, in office since 31 December 2016. He has previously served as the Federal Secretary Law. He remains a visiting professor of law at the Punjab University where he provides instructions on constitutional law. Ascended as the Justice of the Supreme Court on 18 February 2010, he was elevated as chief justice when Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali reached his constitutionally set retiring age. He headed the bench which heard the main and important cases.
