PTI suffered a big blow in Layyah district as Sehar group left the party in NA- 187. The Sehar group returned all the four tickets awarded to it. According to sources close to Sehar group, this unexpected development is the result of infighting that is taking place within PTI. Jahangir Khan Tareen had brought Layyah’s Sehar group into the party’s fold. The influential group representing Sehar clan was given four tickets, one for National Assembly and three for provincial assembly from the district.
The Sehar group was not happy with interference from Shah Mehmood Qureshi and they decided to quit PTI. Former law maker Sardar Bahadur Sehar was contesting from NA-187 and he was a strong candidate.
PTI was hopeful to win most seats in Layyah district as both strong PPP groups quit the party and joined PTI. The joining of Sehar and Jhakar groups strengthen the position of PTI in this South Punjab district. The Sehar group will contest election as an independent group.
The PTI has awarded all four tickets to the Niazi group. Majid Niazi will contest on NA-187. The Niazi group, on the other hand, enjoys the support of Tareen’s political foe Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
PTI Layyah president Basharat Randhawa has announced that he is resigning from the party and run as an independent candidate.
This development will help the PML-N to win this constituency. PML-N was already in a strong position in this constituency but this political development has further improved the chances to retain this seat. PML-N candidate Sahibzada Faizul Hassan won this seat.
PTI still has the chance to clinch NA- 188 seat where Niaz Jhakar is contesting on PTI ticket. There will be a close contest on this seat between PTI and PML-N.
