German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, raised the Kashmir dispute during her talks with Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and conveyed that the situation for the people in occupied Kashmir is unsustainable and not good.
Merkel met Modi at his official residence in New Delhi. Michaela Kuefner, the Chief Political Editor at Deutsche Welle (DW), Germany’s international TV channel, tweeted that in a modest pre-dinner criticism of the Kashmir clampdown, Angela Merkel said that the situation for the people of occupied Kashmir was unsustainable and not good.
Earlier, talking to German reporters accompanying her, Angela Merkel expressed concern for the people of occupied Kashmir and said that the lockdown of the territory could not be supported for long.
In occupied Kashmir, the sufferings of millions of people living in Kashmir Valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu region continue unabated due to strict military siege imposed by India. Normal life remains badly affected on the 91st straight day, today, in the Kashmir Valley and parts of Jammu due to unrelenting restrictions under section 144 and gag on internet and prepaid cellular services.
