Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the win of his party candidate in Ghotki by-polls gives the message to “selected prime minister” that public rejected his “changes”.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results of NA-205 Ghotki By-polls, PPP’s candidate Sardar Muhammad Bukhsh Khan Maher has been declared a winner with 89,180 votes. The independent candidate, Sardar Ahmed Ali Mahar managed to grab 72,499 votes. The polling procedure commenced at 8 am sharp and concluded at 5 pm without any break.
Talking to media in Adilpur, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said: “Today, people have binned Anti-public budget, those who chant of Naya (New) Pakistan and Tabdeeli (changes). Now, we will have to struggle for economic and democratic rights of our people”. On this occasion, he thanked the people of Ghotki, reiterating his father and former president Asif Zardari famous slogan of “Khappey”.
The results are significant given that they provide an indication of people’s political convictions and thinking in the former tribal areas. Prior to the polls, there were predictions that a large number of people would come forward to cast their first ever votes for the provincial assembly. The turnout remained low at 26 percent contrary to expectations.
