Google has released a new security update for the Chrome web browser.
According to sources, this update includes seven security patches for Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms.
Google said in a statement that the latest version of the Chrome browser will be rolling out over the next few days, and that users can instal it as soon as it arrives on their computers.
“Until the majority of users have been modified with a patch, access to bug information and links may be limited. We’ll keep the limitations in place if the bug is in a third-party library that other projects depend on but hasn’t been patched yet,” the company said.
Some Android apps were crashing recently, but Google has fixed the issue. The problem was caused by Android Device WebView, a system component that allows Android apps to display web content.
Users must now upgrade Android System WebView to version 89.0.4389.105 and Google Chrome to the most recent version to resolve the problem. Both can be found on Google Play.
According to the Google Workspace dashboard for Gmail, the problems started on Monday afternoon and lasted about seven hours. Before the problems were resolved, the company advised using the desktop gui.
“We are aware of a WebView problem that is causing some Android apps to crash for some users,” Google said in a tweet, adding, “We are actively working to completely verify the scope and a patch is in the works.”
