The incumbent PTI government introduced the long awaited changes to the NAB Ordinance in Islamabad which officially came into effect on December 30. The official document issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice said the law was amended through ordinance as the National Assembly and Senate are not in sessions.
“President is satisfied by the circumstances exist which render it necessary to take immediate action,” it further read.
The PTI government has finally introduced the much-awaited changes to the NAB Ordinance. The critique on the law was based around three main issues: undue harassment of the business community leading to loss of market confidence, bureaucracy coming to a standstill due to fears of accountability and some structural weaknesses in the law.
The businessmen had complained about NAB’s impedance in business exercises, even on Tax related issues. The ongoing corrections, have excluded all tax-related cases from the domain of NAB, with every single separate request, examinations and preliminaries moved to the pertinent offices and courts.
Thus, all cases that have no association with an open office holder, notwithstanding a couple of substantial special cases, will no more fall inside NAB’s purview. These progressions will help to the business community greatly.
