The cell phone spectrum auction is expected to take place in June. The consultant is optimistic that it will be a success in Pakistan because the country has so much potential.
According to news, a consultant briefed the Finance Division of the Advisory Committee chaired by Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen on the Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) spectrum.
The committee approved the selling of the spectrum during the meeting. In the next step, the consultants will meet with the stakeholders and brief them on the auction process.
The consultant will then deliver an information memorandum based on the auction process as the next move.
Senator Shibli Faraz, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Syed Aminul Haq, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Trade Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Secretaries of various federal agencies, Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication, Executive Director of Frequency Vocation Board, and other officers were present at the meeting.
The Federal Minister of Information Technology told the committee that selling the spectrum would help promote and consolidate connectivity and information technology services across the world.
The committee was also briefed on the 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands by the expert.
According to the committee, the ‘Spectrum Auction 21-2020′ would concentrate on investor sustainability, and the spread of mobile broadband will benefit Pakistan’s economy.
They expressed optimism, saying that there is considerable potential for broadband and telephony development across Pakistan, and that the current four cellular companies are seeking additional spectrum to capitalise on growth opportunities.
They expressed trust in the performance of the spectrum auction, which would result in a substantial increase in government revenue.
