The conflict on appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), between government and opposition is likely going to end as both sides have reportedly agreed on the name of (rtd) bureaucrat Raja Sultan Sikandar for CEC slot.
As per reports, the opposition accepted the government’s name for the CEC. The government agreed on the names of the opposition for the provincial ECP members. The sources also said that they agreed on the name of Nisar Durrani for the ECP member from Sindh and Shah Muhammad Jatoi for Balochistan.
Earlier on Monday, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif had sent Prime Minister Imran Khan three new names for the post of CEC, which included Irfan Qadir, Ikhlaq Tarar and Nasir Mehmood Khosa. The post of the CEC is lying vacant since the retirement of Justice (retd) Sardar Raza on Dec 6, whereas the positions of the two ECP members have been empty for a year now.
