A delegation of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) led by Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal called on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman and requested him to withdraw no-confidence motion against the Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani.
Talking to media after the meeting, Balochistan CM said that we should keep our differences out of the upper house and a no-confidence motion will open up new fronts in the country. On the other hand, JUI-F chief has said that we welcome the government’s approach to us but we cannot retract the motion as it was a collective decision of the opposition-alliance.
However, the government’s members have decided to contact other stake-holders of the opposition to request them to retract the no-confidence motion against the Senate Chairman.
President of Pakistan has convened upper house of the parliament session on August 1. The session of the Senate has been called in connection with the no-confidence motion against Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Senate. The opposition parties decided to remove Sanjrani from his post and formally submitted a no-confidence resolution against him in the Senate secretariat on July 9. Prepared by PML-N’s Senator Javed Abbasi and PPP’s Senator Sherry Rehman, the resolution was signed by 44 senators.
The Opposition had named Hasil Bizenjo as the joint candidate for the post of Senate chairperson. Bizenjo, the president of the National Party, hails from Balochistan and his party has five seats in the Senate.
