Water level in Hub dam has risen by seven feet courtesy the recent spell of monsoon rains. At present the water level in the dam is 307 feet, the Water and Power Development Authority said, adding that the maximum storage capacity is 339 feet. Water level is also increasing in the River Indus due to heavy rains in Sindh.
WAPDA official added the recent spell of rain has contributed to the rise of the water level in the dam. Heavy rain fall has engulfed the Sindh as in Karachi, rainfall was recorded with Surjani Town receiving 49 millimetres (mm) of rain, Saddar 45mm, Nazimabad 25mm, North Karachi 19mm, Shaheed Benazirabad 28mm and Hyderabad receiving 15mm of rain in the last 24 hours.
On the other hand, shortage of potable drinking water has also occurred in the area due to a prolonged power cut inKarachi. Many areas of the city plunged into darkness on Tuesday night after K-Electric, the city’s power utility, suspended supply to feeders associated with the KDA Grid Station at Gulzar-e-Hijri Scheme 33 due to flooding.
