Leader of Opposition and President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Shahbaz Sharif, while addressing a session of the National Assembly today, criticized the ruling government and said, “I am a servant of Pakistan, I won’t take any u-turn,” Shahbaz said.
He also asked Prime Minister Imran to elaborate when and who asked for NRO. “We did not ask for an NRO. If the leader of the house can prove that a request was made for an NRO, I will quit politics for all time to come,” Shehbaz claimed during his heated talk. “I [curse] the NRO,” Shehbaz said. “We cannot be scared off like this.”
Prime Minister Imran Khan, in his address to the nation last week, had said that the opposition parties wanted an NRO from the PTI government. He had said that no one would get an NRO even if they came out onto the streets in protest.
“If the leader of the house [cannot prove the NRO request], then he should [come to the House] and apologise here,” he added.
The PML-N president also took aim at the government’s decision to increase gas and electricity prices. Shahbaz alleged that the government had come to power through a rigged election and had lost credibility in the eyes of the public in a very short time. “They have wiped away the poor people’s dreams with their inflation bombs,” he said.
