The mission chief of the International Monetary Fund, Ernesto Ramirez Rigo is expected to arrive in Pakistan on March 26. During his visit he will hold meetings with Finance Minister Asad Umar and State Bank employees. The government is hoping for an Rs6 billion bailout package from the new chief.
Earlier Federal Finance Minister Asad Umar has hinted that bailout package talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are in their final stages adding that “Pakistan has come closer to reaching an agreement with the IMF as the differences between Pakistan and the IMF over a possible bailout package have decreased”.
He said the IMF had asked Pakistan to take strict measures but “we did not bow to their demands”. He said the IMF understood Pakistan’s position. And “now we are about to reach an agreement with the IMF,” he added.
