The recent state of affairs has been increasingly reinforcing the beliefs of some conspiracy theorists, that the government is indeed operating as a puppet in the hands of the military. The extension of the Chief of Army Staff’s service, the speedy statements issued by ISPR stating their support for the government has all naturally led to more and more people to believing these conspiracy theories.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan had raised a significant ruckus and criticized the judicial system for letting Nawaz Sharif leave the country on account of seeking treatment for his illness. The argument was that a criminal should not be allowed to leave until he faces the charges against him, but ironically, the government seems to be supportive of the former Dictator Parvaiz Musharraf in his on-going case.
The former dictator has been served many notices regarding summoning in court, but has never resurfaced to face his charges. Meanwhile, the previously elected leaders like Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari have been facing the charges against them. The Former dictator has been summoned in court in regard to treason charges, it is important to note that all dictators before Musharraf have also never been held accountable.
During Musharraf’s term, when the judges were fired for not taking oath, Imran Khan himself had actively participated in the Lawyers Movement and protests. It seems Imran Khan has finally embraced the idea of leveraging opportunity to remain a part of the government as long as possible.
Imran Khan has also allowed the Pakistan railways minister, Sheikh Rasheed, to retain his office after a massive railway holocaust accident claimed 74 lives. Imran Khan, unsurprisingly had been the first person to demand the railway minister’s back in 2017 when the Lodhran incident occurred.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” -Dr Martin Luther King Jr
PTI has resorted to a new form of hypocritical politics going by not even mentioning a word about the individual who was responsible for abrogating the constitution. It is especially important to note that Imran’s outbursts about manipulation of justice have only retained his stance, when it was against the previously elected governments.
