The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday (Feb 13) lodged FIR against 14 students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) including students union president Mohammad Salman Imtiyaz and vice president Huzaifa Aamir. Cases under Section 124-A (sedition) and nine other sections of the IPC for raising pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans.
As per details some AMU students reportedly got into an altercation with reporters of a media organisation on campus during a protest they had staged ahead of AIMIM lawmaker Asaduddin Owaisi’s visit to the university on Tuesday. According to the police, the violence spread outside the campus and a Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) worker was assaulted by the protesting students.
A senior cop, meanwhile, said the Rapid Action Force was stationed around the university campus amid other protests, including one in which a bike belonging to an ABVP member was set ablaze.
