India has released two Pakistan nationals — Mohammad Imran Qureshi Warsi and Abdullah to their native place through Attai-Wagah Joint Check post on Wednesday (Dec 26).
On being released by the authorities, Abdullah said that it was his dream to visit India and meet Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Hoping to come back again, Abdullah said, “I came to India through Attari in 2017. It was my childhood dream to come to India and meet Shah Rukh Khan. My dream was not fulfilled. I’ll come back again.”Abdullah was detained from Attari in 2017 and charged with crossing over without any documents while Warsi spent around a decade in Bhopal jail on charges of “forgery and spying” after coming to India in 2004.
A resident of Karachi, Warsi was reunited with his family after 14 years. He was jailed in India for the last 10 years on charges of forgery and spying by the Bhopal court under the Official Secrets Act and the Passport Act, finding him guilty of conspiracy, cheating and forging documents. In his late 30s, Warsi had come to Kolkatta to meet his relatives on valid documentation in 2004 for 45 days.
This comes after Pakistan released Indian National Hamid Nihal Ansari last week, who was lodged in a Pakistan jail for years.
